Lisa Tui Jonathan
From Christchurch, New Zealand Lisa Tui is a singer/songwriter, vocalist and singing teacher.
Lisa's music style is a mix of Jazz and Folk with a definitive New Zealand groove. A groove she attributes to growing up immersed in the sounds of her father playing guitar at gigs and on the couch. The stories of her songs are familial, loving and are supported by an intimate acoustic sound, they guide her melodies, arrangements and production - straight forward and spacious.
Songwriting has become a passion for Lisa in the last 3 years especially since she revisited her music and performance studies in 2013-2014.
She left Christchurch in 2013 to study at Otago University where she gained a post-graduate diploma in Studio Music Teaching. Since completing her Degree in Performing Arts (Music Theatre) from ARA, Lisa has been striving to foster her own style in writing and composition.
No new comer to performance, Lisa has sung on stage in lead roles in Music Theatre productions, in Jazz, Music and Fringe festivals and recorded in Sydney. She is also the choir director for the community gospel choir Bright on Vibes and she individual voice students at her home studio and is an itinerate music teacher at the Haeata Community Campus and the founder of Sing Gym for developing singers. These days she enjoys the intimacy of concert performances including house concerts and in festivals.
Lisa has released an EP called Night Falls into Morning, a single release - 'Comin on Home' in Feb 2017 and a digital album from her live recorded concert at Orange Studios in June of the same year. Currently Lisa is collaborating with producer/arranger Tom Rainey to produce a new album centred around voice and piano.
